The Town Clerk shall examine all filed nomination forms prior to 4:00PM and, if satisfied, certify the nominations or, if applicable, declare any candidates elected by acclamation.

Important Dates for Candidates
August 24, 2026 - Certification Day
September 28, 2026 - Voting Opens
The only methods for voting in Tecumseh will be internet and telephone voting.
If you are on the Voters' List, you will receive a Voter Information Letter prior to this date which will provide you with the Personal Identification Number (PIN) you will need, as well as detailed instructions on how to cast your vote.
October 26, 2026 - Last Day to Vote
Voting ends at 8:00PM.
November 17, 2026 - Inaugural Meeting
Elected candidates will take the oath of office before assuming their seat. The inaugural meeting of the new Council will be held on this date at a time to be set.
December 31, 2026 - Campaign Period Ends
Last day for candidates and registered third-party advertisers to provide written notice of a deficit and the continuation of their campaign period.
In the case of a deficit, a candidate or registered third-party may request an extension of the campaign period by completing and filing with the Town Clerk a Form 6 - Notice of Extension of Campaign Period. This notice must be filed on or before December 31 in the year of a regular election or 45 days after voting day in the case of a by-election.
March 30, 2027 - Filing Deadline
By 2:00PM candidates and registered third-party advertisers must file their initial financial statements and auditor report.

All Election Signs must adhere to the Town's By-Law No. 2026-019 - Election Signs, including obtaining a permit by submitting an Election Sign Application.

Financial Statement Information and Forms
All candidates, including - those not elected, those who withdraw their nomination, and those whose nomination is rejected by the Town Clerk - must disclose and report their contributions and expenses, using the Financial Statement - Auditor's Report - Candidate Form 4.
A Candidate's campaign period starts on the date the nomination is filed and ends December 31, 2026, or, if the nomination is withdrawn, on the date of withdrawal.
Financial Statements are to be filed with the Town Clerk no later than 2:00PM on March 30, 2027.
Should a Candidate file a Form 6 - Notice of Extension of Campaign Period to extend their campaign, the Candidate will be required to file supplementary financial filings.

When can candidates begin campaigning?
Once candidates have filed their nomination papers with the Clerk's Office, they are able to begin raising and spending money on their campaign.
When can candidates begin to put up lawn signs?
Candidates can put up their campaign signs starting August 22, 2026. All lawn signs must adhere to the regulations as contained in Town of Tecumseh Election Sign By-Law 2026-019.
Complaints about lawn signs should be submitted to Elections@tecumseh.ca or can be reported by calling 519-735-2743 during regular business hours.
When do candidates have to remove their lawn signs?
Candidates must remove their signs by 11:59PM on October 29, 2026.
Are candidates or people representing candidates allowed to canvass in apartment buildings/condos?
Yes. Candidates, or their representatives, are permitted to canvas door-to-door in apartments and condos between 9:00AM and 9:00PM.
From the day they register, candidates and their representatives are allowed full access to condos, apartments, co-op housing and other residential complexes to canvass door-to-door and distribute campaign material. It is against the law to falsely represent yourself as working for Tecumseh Elections, a candidate or a third-party advertiser.
No, according to section 88.20 (8) of the Municipal Elections Act, the cost of parties and gifts of appreciation after the close of voting do not count towards your regular expense limit for the election. However, these costs are subject to a separate expense limit established in section 88.20 (9) of the MEA.
